On September 20, 2021, Apple released its updated iOS 15. Among its new features was the change in the position of the Safari browser search bar. Before the upgrade, Safari’s search bar was positioned at the top of the browser, resembling the standard desktop view. iOS 15’s Safari’s search bar relocation is one of the few surprises in the most recent update.

Safari’s position change may improve ergonomics since it’s directly above the keyboard. Apple phone screens are getting bigger, so moving the search bar to the bottom makes accessing it much easier. Yet, most people are used to the search bar being placed at the top position, and some might find this change unfavorable.

Apple has created two ways to revert to the old Safari search bar’s position. To execute this change, you will need to install the latest iOS version on your iPhone.

Changing the search bar position on the browser is pretty straightforward. It doesn’t require any special tech skills. Follow these steps to get it done.

  • Open Safari on your iPhone.
  • Type in any web address you like.
  • Click on the “aA” icon on the left side of the search bar. A menu will pop up with several options.
  • Select the “Show Top Address Bar” option. The search bar will appear at the top.

If you ever wish to move the address bar back to the bottom, here is how to do it:

  • Open Safari browser
  • Type in any web address.
  • Locate the “aA” icon and click on it.
  • Select the “Show Bottom Address Bar” option.

Keep in mind that the position of the associated buttons in the search bar will remain unchanged after moving it to the top. This should be manageable since the buttons are still close to your fingers.

Apart from the change in the position of the Safari search bar following Apple’s iOS upgrade, other new and exciting features have also been added. Some cool browser features include Tab Grouping, Mac-style tab bar, and Pull to Refresh in Landscape Mode. Other eye-catching features include Focus Mode, Live Texts, SharePlay in FaceTime, and Background Sounds.
